On March 24th, the Center Pointe Women’s Ministry hosted the 10th annual Styled for Giving fashion show, luncheon and silent auction to benefit International Needs Network – Ghana Trokosi Project. 190 women showed up for an afternoon of fun, fashion, food, and fellowship... But they left with a whole lot more. They left with the knowledge that they had contributed to literally changing the course of hundreds of lives.
Each year, the Styled For Giving event raises money to benefit the children and young women of the Trokosi Project in Ghana who are rescued from slavery and poverty and given the hope and resources of a new life. The 2012 event raised over $27,000. This number translates into life changing impact. In addition to the funds raised through the silent auction there were special balloons sold, each with a dollar value and purpose. The $50 gifts will each supply 2 pair of shoes. $100 gifts will provide for one month of the training program at the Adidome Training Center for girls who have come out of slavery. $250 gifts will resource new graduates of the program with the tools to engage in the trade they have now learned. Three $1000 gifts will provide the start up costs for a food program in 3 villages. Styled For Giving has been partnering with the Trokosi project to bring a feeding program to the village of Mepe. This year’s event helped reach that goal, and as a result, 550 kids will get a hot meal each day as part of their schooling. The kids are enrolled in school thanks to the monthly sponsorship gifts of people like the women of Styled for Giving. In addition to the funds raised at the event, approximately 20 more children received sponsors as a result of the event. Along with food, clothes, and schooling, the children will learn about Jesus and the love and freedom that He can bring to their lives.
In its 10-year history, the Styled for Giving event has raised a combined total of over $225,000 to make a difference in the lives of women and children in Ghana. Seeing a need, allowing your heart to be touched, and rallying people to make a real difference in tangible ways... This is what it means to SERVE OTHERS COMPASSSIONATELY. A big thanks to all those who helped make the event a success!
